METU MUD organized a study trip to Surici, Diyabakir on March 10-12, 2017. Re-visiting the site after the first-semester design studies, the group had a chance to discover the potentialities of the city in the way of recovering the tissue after the military conflict occurred. By visiting the different local professional institutions (the local directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanism, the Chamber of Architecture, and the Chamber of City Planners), the students received the different political perspectives on the issue of urban regeneration held in the site as well. Visiting homes of the local community provided an opportunity to get an insight about the intrinsic social and economic problematics of the city as well.
