Bodrum Peninsula Urban Project & Başakşehir Urban Design Competition

As one of the prominent tourism areas attracting both national and international tourists in each and every year, the Bodrum Peninsula has been facing the ongoing problem of uncotrolled secondary housing development which essentially prevent the area to develop an eco-friendly urban character.  In this context, the key design concept of the every alternative projects was ‘spatial control’ of the rapid development on the peninsula.  In this framework, there were four types of urbanistic approaches developed by the different design groups in the studio:  culturalist approach, megastructural approach, structuralist approach, and ecologist approach. In the second semester, the studio participated to the National Urban Design Competition of Başakşehir. The design approach pursued in the competition of Başakşehir was based on the design tactics developed for Bodrum during the previous term.
